Los peligros que se derivan de las actuales estrategias del mercado son incalculables y el reciente debate del NAFTA (Tratado de libre comercio del Atl\u00e1ntico Norte) y de la Ronda Uruguay sobre las negociaciones de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial del Comercio (GATT) ha mostrado la extrema urgencia de integrar en el comercio mundial criterios de protecci\u00f3n medioambientales. Partiendo de una amplia experiencia, Esty muestra la necesidad de introducir cambios radicales en la pol\u00edtica medioambiental de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial del Comercio y recomienda la creaci\u00f3n de una Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial del Medio Ambiente para prevenir y sancionar las negligencias de los gobiernos que son consecuencia de la competitividad.
